CONSULTANTS AVAILABLE 2017-2018

This following list consists of individuals who, based on the information they have provided, meet the minimum qualifications of an archivist and/or records manager and who have requested to be included in the list. It is not a listing of all individuals who qualify as professionals in these disciplines and does not constitute an endorsement of any listed individual by the New Mexico Historical Records Advisory Board.


Jennifer Day, CA
Jennifer Day has almost 10 years of experience processing archival materials and managing projects in archival and museum facilities. She specializes in archival policy development and preservation and description of paper items. Ms. Day has provided collection care consultations and written assessments for academic special collections, government agencies, municipal trusts, and individuals with family history resources. She has also established policy and procedure for all aspects of archival work with collections processing, acquisition, preservation, metadata creation and management, as well as outreach, public service, and volunteer programs. Ms. Day has developed and delivered workshops on care of paper items, managing volunteers and interns, archival processing, and donor relations.  Certified with the Academy of Certified Archivists since 2009.

Marcy Flynn
Consultant to archives, libraries, museums and private collections with visual images, especially photographs. Provides services to improve  organization, description, preservation and use. Specialties include writing assessment reports and grant proposals; developing practices for processing and description; implementing standard procedures; instructing workshops and seminars. Formerly Senior Cataloger, Prints and Photographs Division, Library of Congress; Graphics Project Curator, Historical Society of Pennsylvania; Prints and Photographs Librarian, Maryland Historical Society.

Jo Anne Martinez-Kilgore
Owner of Cariño Conservation. Ms. Martinez Kilgore has over 15 years’ experience providing conservation/preservation assessments, conservation treatment, training, and other consulting services to the caretakers of cultural heritage collections.  She specializes in the conservation treatment of paper based and book format items ranging from paperbacks to illustrated manuscripts.  Her services include assessing diverse collections and records holdings in all formats, considering goals and resources, and identifying doable and effective priorities in a comprehensive assessment report.  She previously worked as a collections conservator at the New York Public Library and the Library of Congress where she initiated cost effective processes to preserve large numbers of items, at risk, within the collections.  Martinez-Kilgore earned a Certificate in Library and Archives Conservation from Columbia University.

Anna Naruta-Moya
Dr. Naruta-Moya specializes in assessing overall holdings and developing effective next steps; assistance developing a priority order for processing your collections that meets your overall program goals and achievable steps for implementation; establishing or facilitating review of Collections Policies; establishing or updating systems for recording donations or other intake of materials; developing finding aids that allow you and your researchers to make effective use of the materials in your archive; records management; preservation assessments; digital preservation; processing and description of physical and electronic records in accord with standard archival practices; making archival finding aids available via online resources.  Dr. Naruta-Moya is a Certified Archivist, holds a PhD from the University of California, Berkeley, and has served as a processing and reference archivist at the Hoover Institution Archives, Stanford University, and the US National Archives.

Michele F. Pacifico
More than 30 years of archives experience, specializes in archival facilities. Assists in all aspects of archival policy and planning, including proposals, assessments, collection surveys, feasibility studies, programming, design, construction, and post occupancy reviews for archives, records centers, libraries, and museum facilities. Formerly managed largest archival facility design and construction project in the world - NARA’s Archives II. Co-editor and sections author of the award winning 2009 SAA-approved standard for US archival facilities: Archival and Special Collections Facilities: Guidelines for Archivists, Librarians, Architects, and Engineers. As co-chair of SAA’s Technical Subcommittee on Archival Facilities Guidelines is coordinating the development of a joint US-Canadian standard and is a working member of the International Council of Archives Expert Group on Archive Buildings and Environments.

Karen M. Payne, CRM, CPO®

Gerrianne Schaad
Archival consultant with more than 25 years of archival and library experience with academic, museum, and private entities, including experience in arrangement and description of manuscript and photographic collections.  Specialties include conducting and writing site assessment reports; developing practices for processing and description of textual and photographic materials; creating databases for photographs and private book collections; and teaching Basics of Archives workshop.

Cliff C. Serrano
Mr. Serrano is the owner of Blu Star Techs LLC (BST), an Information Governance and Technology Company. His company provides personalized information consulting solutions related to comprehensive Records and Information Management (RIM), Electronic Records Management Systems (ERMS), Electronic Document Management Systems (EDMS) solutions, and enterprise-wide electronic imaging implementations. In the areas of IT, his company provides a wide-range of solutions including computer support, web solutions (website design and development, website host management, webmaster solutions) and graphic design.  Mr. Serrano recently completed contract work at Santa Fe Indian School (SFIS) - United States Department of the Interior/Bureau of Indian Affairs. He held the position of Content Manager/Content Management System Project Lead. He also managed the school's Electronic Document Management System (EDMS) application and its computer/server infrastructure, and he promoted best practices in RIM and overall document management awareness.

Gregor Trinkaus-Randall
The Preservation Specialist at the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners.  He was instrumental in developing dPlan: an Online Disaster Planning Tool.  He is Co-Chair of COSTEP Massachusetts (Coordinated Statewide Emergency Preparedness).  In 2012, he was awarded the George Cunha and Susan Swartzburg Preservation Award from ALCTS PARS.  In 2013 he was honored with the New England Archivists Distinguished Service Award.  He has spoken widely and consulted on preservation, disaster preparedness, archival, and security topics. He has run numerous workshops for librarians and archivists.  Clients have included Purdue University, the University of Alaska at Fairbanks, the USS Constitution Museum, Southern Connecticut State University, and the Pennsylvania State Library.  He is a member of the Academy of Certified Archivists, the Society of American Archivists, the Midwest Archives Conference, and is a former President of the New England Archivists (1995-1996) and of the Society of American Archivists (2011-2012).  He was elected a Fellow of the Society of American Archivists in 2006.    He is the author of Protecting Your Collections: A Manual of Archival Security and contributed a chapter on security to Archival and Special Collections Facilities: Guidelines for Archivists, Librarians, Architects, and Engineers (SAA, 2009).

Joseph V. Valdez, II
History Graduate from UC Berkeley with an A- GPA from graduate studies in UNM’s Public Administration program. Past Santa Fe Municipal City Records Manager for its Records & Archives Center. Retired from the State Records Center & Archives (SRCA).  Was the SRCA Local Government Analyst.  Possess the National Archives & Records Administration (NARA) Certification for Records and Information Management (IM) Training. Developed the IM schedules for the NM Supreme Court, SRCA, numerous other state agencies, plus all of the local government entities.  I have been an active member of the Association of Records Managers & Administrators (ARMA) since 1989 and was able to conduct the operations necessary to acquire the ARMA, International Olsen Award for Excellence in Records & IM for Santa Fe in 1990.
